    Jack Reacher-Teenager’s Movie Review

Five random people going about their day, five random people shot and killed. Hours after the shooting, police identify and arrest Army Sniper James Barr. However, Barr claims he’s innocent, but asks for Jack Reacher (Tom Cruise), a former Army Military police officer. Reacher knows Barr, and believes he’s guilty, however when he arrives, Barr has been badly beaten and can’t even remember the day of the murders. Now Jack Reacher is very curious and suspicious about the case, so he agrees to help Helen, a beautiful defense attorney, find the killer…is it Barr, or someone else? Jack Reacher is a very suspenseful, violent film; based on the book One Shot.

    Talking Points:

Tom Cruise does a fantastic job of playing Jack Reacher.

This film is very suspenseful and exciting. I was at the edge of my seat, not knowing what was going to happen. Having said that, with the excessive and disturbing violent scenes, I don’t recommend this for kids. Depending on the child, I would say it’s appropriate for teenagers 15 and up.

    Sexual Content: Mild

    • Sandy, a young women who wears a skimpy outfit, makes a move on Reacher in a bar.
    • We see a women, from her back side, putting on her bra while only wearing a pair of black panties.

    Violent Content: Excessive

    • In the opening scene we see five innocent people shot and killed, this was a very disturbing scene.
    • Jack Reacher is in a lot of brutal fight scenes. He pounds a guys face to a tile floor, he breaks a man’s leg and fingers, then knees him in the face, he also beats a guy to death.
    • A man is encouraged to chew off his own fingers, however when he fails to do so, he’s shot and killed.
    • Barr is brutally beaten by other prisoners, we see his face covered with blood.

    Crude or Profane Language: Excessive

    • We hear the f-word once. “Sh–” is said a lot, and “a–,” “b–ch,” and “h—,” are said throughout the film.

    Drugs and Alcohol Content: Moderate

    • We see character’s drinking beer and alcoholic beverages.
    • We see a women passed out, with drug paraphernalia on the table beside her.
    • We hear a discussion about meth.

Will Kids Like It? Yes (teenage boys)

    • With the suspense and action, I think teenage boys will like the film.

Overall, I enjoyed the thrill and suspense of the film, however I feel that there was too much violence, especially for kids. As I previously mentioned, depending on the child, this is appropriate for mature, teenagers- ages 15 and up.
