    Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit-Kids Movie Review

    He’s handsome, he’s intelligent…he’s the young Jack Ryan (Chris Pine). Jack Ryan is an economic student studying in London to get his PhD. However his life dramatically changes one day as he’s watching the events from 9/11 on TV. He alters his course of action from studying economics to joining the marines. The film follows Jack’s life from his time in Afghanistan, where he suffered a terrible injury, to his days as an analyst in the Financial Intelligence Unit of the CIA. While working for the CIA  he discovers a Russian plot to destroy the American economy. Now Jack goes from his desk job to a spot in the field as a spy. Based on the character created by author Tom Clancy, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit is an action packed, suspenseful film.

    Talking Points:

    There is an all-star cast, to name a few; Chris Pine, Keira Knightley and Kevin Costner.

    Jack is a great character, he does what it takes to protect his country and those he loves. He’s a hard working guy and a dedicated and loving fiancee.

    The film is very suspenseful and exciting, you’ll be at the edge of your seat.

    Sexual Content: Mild

    • We see Jack and his fiancee lying in bed together, they’re covered by a sheet.

    Violent Content: Excessive

    • Numerous character’s are shot and killed by guns.
    • A villain stabs a man in the throat.
    • Characters are punched, kicked and beaten to death.
    • Jack gets into a fight in a hotel bathroom and drowns the bad guy in the tub.
    • A woman is slapped and threatened with a painful torture.

    Crude or Profane Language: Moderate

    • The f-word is used once, we also hear “sh-,t” and “g-dd–n.”

    Drugs and Alcohol: Mild

    • Characters are shown drinking wine.
    • We see a character injecting himself with a syringe.

    Will it Appeal to Teens? Yes

    Overall Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit is an action packed film, one that pre-teen and teenage boys will like. Parents need to be aware of the excessive violence throughout the film.
