Love conquers all, even when it involves a relationship between the living and the dead. When zombie R (Nicholas Hoult) see’s beautiful human girl, Julie (Teresa Palmer), it’s love at first sight. Initially Julie is scared of R, however after a few days of being captured at the zombie compound, Julie and R develope a strong connection, that will ultimately transform R and the other zombies. Warm Bodies is a powerful love story, one that mature pre-teens and teenagers will enjoy.

    Talking Points:

Nothing like a love story. In this film R (the zombie) and Julie (the human) come from completely different worlds, however their love conquers all. R protects Julie and risks his life to save her. There is a constant theme of the power of love.

Julie was brought up to fear and hate the zombies, but, once again, true love changes everything. As R falls in love with Julie, he becomes more alive, he begins to feel various emotions, and becomes human.

    Sexual Content: Mild

    • We see character’s kiss and snuggle together.
    • When accompanied by R, Julie strips down to her underwear before getting into bed. R takes a peak, but sleeps on the floor. We only see her backside.
    • We see Julie and R passionately kissing in a pool.

    Violent Content: Moderate

    • It’s disgusting to see the zombies eat; blood is encrusted around their mouths and on their teeth.
    • There’s a battle between R’s zombie clan and Julie’s friends. There are knives, guns, punches and biting involved.
    • R beats up Perry (Julie’s old boyfriend). R smashes his head against the floor and sinks his teeth into Perry’s arm. R eats part of Perry and even takes a chunk of his brain to snack on later.
    • We see characters shooting one another in the head.
    • Julie stabs R in the gut.
    • Zombies destroy the boneys (their enemies) in a battle. They punch, kick and shoot one another.

    Crude and Profane Language: Moderate

    • The f-word is said once. We hear “sh–,” “a–,” “b–ch” and “h—,” several times each.

    Drug and Alcohol Content: Mild

    • R gives Julie a beer.
    • We hear that Julie was once grounded for drinking peach schnapps.

    Will Kids Like It?Yes

Overall this is a wonderful movie for mature pre- teens and teenagers. Parents need to be aware of the zombie violence and moderate profane language.
