    2011 DVD Christmas Gift Ideas

The movies listed below are some of my favorite movies that I have reviewed in 2011; which are now out on DVD. However, in each category I have one that I especially love!

See a clip of my review here!

    I. Best DVD Gift Ideas for Kids Ages Four and Up.

    The Smurfs: PG
Spy Kids: All The Time In The World 4D: PG
    Cars 2: PG
    Kung Fu Panda 2: PG
    Rio: G
    Mars Needs Moms: PG
    Gnomeo & Juliet: G

Box Office Mom’s favorite movie in this category is Mars Needs Moms. Maybe it’s because I’m a mom of three; though it is such an endearing story about a 9 year old boy, Milo (Seth Green) who finds out how much he really needs his mom (Joan Cusack) when she’s captured by martians who plan to steal her mom-ness for their own young. Produced by the team behind Disney’s A Christmas Carol and The Polar Express, Mars Needs Moms highlights Milo’s quest to rescue his mom from Mars, and let her know how much she’s loved and needed in their home….something all mom’s want love to hear.

II. Best DVD Gift Ideas for Pre-teen/Teenage Girls and Up:

    Soul Surfer: PG13
    The Help: PG13
    Monte Carlo: PG
    Prom: PG
    Water for Elephants: PG13
    Beastly: PG13
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows-Part 2: PG13

Box Office Mom’s favorite movie in this category is Soul Surfer. This is story about Bethany (AnnaSophia Robb) a 13 year old champion surfer who loses her left arm in a terrifying shark attack, but with faith and determination, she makes an incredible comeback in this inspirational sports drama which is based on a true story.

III. Best DVD Gift Ideas for Boys Ages 10 and Up:

Captain America: The First Avenger: PG13
Transformers 2: Dark of the Moon: PG13
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallow-Part 2: PG13
    Super 8: PG13
    Thor: PG13
    Source Code: PG13
    I am Number Four: PG13
Diary of a Wimpy Kid; Rodrick Rules: PG

You can’t go wrong with any of this movies, though the one I’d like to highlight as a favorite is Super 8. I felt like I was on a roller coaster during this adventurous sci-fi movie. Super 8 is set in a small town of Ohio during the summer of 1979.  This is a story about a group of middle school aged kids who are shooting a Super-8 movie for a film festival in Cleveland.  One evening, while filming their movie, the kids witness a horrific train crash.  Initially they think it’s an accident, however after many strange events that begin to occur in their small town, they eventually come to realize that this awful train wreck was not an accident; and that it’s lot worse than they could ever imagine.  With writer J.J. Abrams along with producer Steven Spielberg, this is a wonderful and suspenseful movie…hold on, you’ll be on the edge of your seat!

IV. Best DVD Gift for the Whole Family to Enjoy:

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules: PG
    Cars 2: PG
    Rio: G
    Mr. Popper’s Penguins: PG

This group is a little harder because you may be watching the movie with all different aged kids, however, I think the whole family would enjoy Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules is the second movie of the series, based on the best selling illustrated novels by Jeff Kinney.  Greg Heffley (Zachary Gordon) is now in seventh grade, he’s no longer the wimpy sixth grader. However, his confidence is brought down very quickly by his older brother Rodrick (Devon Bostick), who jumps at the chance to harass his little brother.  Meanwhile, their parents (especially the mother) desperately want the two boys to be friends, and get along; they even go out of town for the weekend, leaving Greg and Rodrick alone so they can have a “bonding” weekend with each other.   There are many comedic and entertaining parts to this movie, one for the whole family to enjoy.
