    American Sniper-Teen Movie Review

“God, country and family,” that’s what Chris Kyle (Bradely Cooper) believes in. Chris is a 30 year old rodeo cowboy living in Texas. His life drastically changes the day he sees the television coverage of the terrorist attacks on the U. S. embassies in Dar es Salaam and Nairobi. Feeling a strong need to serve his country, he immediately enlists to become a U. S Navy SEAL. Things are going well for Chris, he meets his wife Taya (Sienna Miller) at a bar, falls in love and gets married. However after the September 11 attacks Chris is deployed to Iraq as a sniper. He signed up for four tours of duty, becomes a legend, and the most deadly sniper in U.S. Military history. Based on a true story, American Sniper is an amazing film about a dedicated and loyal American hero.

    Talking Points:

This is a great educational film, as it’s based on a true story. Chris had a job to protect his country and fight evil terrorists,  so that’s what he did.  He was focused and passionate about serving his country.

Chris believes in “God, country and family” and says he could “stand before the Creator and answer for every shot I took.”

There was a lot of violence, which was sometimes hard to watch, especially when Chris had to kill woman and children.

    Sexual Content: Mild

    • Chris walks in on  his girlfriend with another man. We see them quickly getting dressed.
    • Chris picks up a girl (his eventual wife) at a bar, they kiss and end up sleeping together. We see them in bed, however completely covered.

    Violent/Disturbing Content: Excessive

    • We see several men, woman and children shot to death.
    • In a very disturbing scene a character takes an electric drill and drills into a boy’s leg, then drills through the boy’s head, leaving him dead, covered in blood.
    • We see casualties on the American side. Characters are shot, we see them suffer and covered in blood.
    • We see kids on a playground beating each other and bloody.
    • At a family party back home, Chris thinks a dog is attacking a young boy, so he takes off his belt ready to beat the dog, then stops.

    Crude or Profane Language: Excessive

    • The f-word is said a lot throughout the film. We also hear “a–,” “b–ch,” “h—,” “p—” and “d–k.”

    Drug and Alcohol Content: Mild

    • Chris and his brother drink a lot of beer.
    • A character is shown drinking shots at a bar, drunk and throwing up.

    Will Kids Like It? Yes

Overall this is an amazing film. Having said that, parents need to be aware of the excessive profane language and excessive violence.
