Carrie-Teen Movie Review
Senior year is an exciting time for most high school students; with college visits, prom, and fun activities…life is good. However for high school senior Carrie White, school was not that great. She tried to fit in, but due to her strange and crazy mother, Carrie had a difficult time. She was continuously laughed at, mocked and ridiculed by her peers. Carrie was hoping that things would change the day that the senior hottie, Tommy, asked her to prom. This was her chance to shine, be like the others and prove herself. However when problems arose at the dance, Carrie lost control, and revealed her telekinetic powers to all. Carrie is based on a Stephen King thriller, and remake of the 1976 horror film.

Talking Points:
Carrie wanted to be a “normal” teenager, she wanted to be like the other girls. However with her strange upbringing it wasn’t that easy. Unfortunately as she tried to “fit in,” she was bullied; Carrie had had enough of the humiliation, and completely lost control of her emotions at the prom. We saw the effects bullying had on her…great parent/child conversation.
Sexual Content: Moderate
- We see two teenagers in a sexual encounter, however they’re under a blanket so we only see their legs.
- Teenage couples kiss passionately throughout the film. One girl wraps her legs around her boyfriend’s waist while kissing him.
- We see girls wearing only their bra and undies.
Violent/Disturbing Content: Excessive
- Carrie and her mother, Margaret, get into some gruesome fights; Carrie throws her mother around a room and eventually impales her with knives and scissors. Margaret also strikes Carrie with a knife.
- Margaret conflicts pain on herself by cutting her skin with sharp objects and even using her own fingernails to cut herself. She also bashes her head against a wall, and slaps her face.
- Some teenagers kill a pig with a sledgehammer, then a girl in the group proceeds to slit the pig’s throat. We see blood squirting out all over the place.
- At the prom mayhem ensues and Carrie uses her powers to destroy the school; several students die.
Crude or Profane Language: Moderate
- We hear the f-word several times. We also hear; “h–,” “d–n” “b–ch, and “sh-t,” throughout the film.
Drugs and Alcohol: Mild
- Teens are shown drinking beer.
Will It Appeal to Teens? Yes
Overall Carrie is an intense drama. For those that like a good horror film, I recommend this film for kids ages 14 and up.
