Sixteenth president of the United States from 1861 to 1865, leader of the Union during the Civil War, dedicated husband/father, and a wonderful man referred to as “honest Abe.” Lincoln chronicles President Abraham Lincoln’s final months in office. We see his fierce determination to end the civil war and abolish slavery. We see his personnel struggles and the difficulties he had to face while pursuing his heartfelt goals as president. Jason is a college bound teenage boy who made a huge mistake, a mistake that would change his life forever. Jason allowed his friend to ship a box of Ecstasy pills to his home. After receiving the shipment, the Drug Enforcement Agency came to his house, and before you know it Jason was sentenced to a 10- year prison term. Jason’s father, John (Dwayne Johnson), immediately became involved, and entered into the drug world. He went undercover for the DEA to make some arrests, and ultimately free his son. Based on a true story, Snitch is a suspenseful thriller about a father’s unconditional love to save his son from the involvement of an illegal drug trade.

    Talking Points:

I liked the father/son relationship. John (Dwayne Johnson) realized that his son was not completely innocent, after all, Jason allowed the package to be delivered to his house. However John knew his son made a mistake, though he didn’t believe it should ruin his life. John did everything he could possibly do to save his son.

John was impressed by the fact that Jason did not want to set someone up, which would ultimately save him. John believed that his son taught him a lesson about character and integrity. This was a heartfelt scene.

Typically Dwayne Johnson is in movies targeted towards families. To name a few: Tooth Fairy, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island and Race to Witch Mountain. Most likely this movie will appeal to kids because of it’s leading actor, Dwayne Johnson. However this is not a kids movie. It’s a very dark and serious film about an illegal drug trade. Having said that, it could spark some great parent/child conversations regarding the importance of NOT getting involved in drugs.

    Sexual Content: Mild

    • Character’s kiss passionately.

    Violent Content: Excessive

    • John (Jason’s dad) was severely beaten when going undercover trying to buy cocaine. His nose and mouth were bloody.
    • There was a massive shoot-out in a junkyard; there were several deaths from the gun fight.
    • There was an attack on a drug house. Character’s died from gunshot wounds, and one character was choked to death.
    • When Jason’s parents visited him in jail, he typically had some bruises, cuts and scraps. However one time they weren’t even allowed to see him; he had just been assaulted. This was heartbreaking for the parents.

    Crude or Profane Language: Excessive

    • “Sh–,” ‘a–,” “b–ch,” “h—,” and “p—y,” were said throughout the film.

    Drugs and Alcohol Content: Excessive

    • The story was centered around an illegal drug trade.
    • John was forced to snort cocaine.
    • The drug package that Jason received was filled with thousands of Ecstasy pills.
    • We saw character’s smoking cigarettes and drinking hard liquor.

    Will Kids Like It? No

    • This is a dark and serious film.

Overall Snitch is a movie that may appeal to adults, however due to the mature subject matter, the excessive violence, and the excessive drug and profane language content, I do not recommend this movie for kids.

See Warm Bodies instead!!! It’s a great movie in the theaters, that’s action packed, and one that would appeal to teens.
