    Talking Points:

There are wonderful messages woven throughout the film. As I previously mentioned Tim travels back in time, and he does it when he wants change or perfect something he’s said or done. He eventually comes to realize that in life things don’t always go as planned, and that life is not perfect. He learns to take the time and enjoy family and friends and be content with the day to day happenings. He also learns that life is filled with trials and tribulations, and it’s how you handle the difficult situations that’s important; because there’s always something to handle!

The family dynamics in the film were sweet and endearing. Tim was a wonderful husband, father and son. It was heartwarming to see he and his father bond over a game of ping pong and running on the beach.

The film is slow in parts, however the second half picks up, as some interesting events occur.

This is an R rated film, which means that children under 17 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Parents need to be aware of some profane words used in the film. Though the sexual content is moderate, it’s nothing you wouldn’t see or hear in a PG13 rated movie.

    Sexual Content: Moderate

    • Tim and Mary have several sexual encounters. We don’t see any details, just the two of them lying in bed with the covers over them.
    • Mary does a striptease for Tim, removing one item of clothing at a time. Her hands cover her breasts, and she does not remove her underwear.
    • There are brief sexual conversations referring to oral sex, lesbians and whether prostitutes enjoy sex.
    • In an art museum we see a topless photo of supermodel Kate Moss.

    Violent Content: Mild

    • A character gets in a car accident and we cuts and bruises on their face.

    Crude or Profane Language: Moderate

    • The f-word is said a few times. We also hear “sh-t,” “d–n,” “h—,” “pr–k,” “d–k,” and “b–tard,” throughout the film.

    Drugs and Alcohol: Mild

    • We see characters in several social occasions drinking alcohol.

Will It Appeal to Teens? Yes

    • Mature teenage girls will most likely enjoy the storyline.
    • Since the film stars Rachel McAdams and Domhnall Gleeson (who played Bill Weasley in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) this will interest most pre-teens and teens.

Overall About Time is a heartwarming film with some great life lessons. Parents need to be aware of the profane language and moderate sexual content. I recommend this film for mature teenage girls that like a good love story. As I previously mentioned, due to the R rating, kids under 17 must be accompanied by an adult or legal guardian.
