Hunger Games: Catching Fire-Teen Movie Review
The 74th Annual Hunger Games were finished and the winners, Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson), were ready to go home to District 12 and be with their family and friends. However there wasn’t much time at home due to the “Victory Tour” they had to attend. Visiting each district and pretending to be madly in love was next on their agenda. Though it wasn’t as glamorous as they had hoped, strange things were happening at the districts, and Katniss sensed that a rebellion was on the rise. After the celebration, President Snow (Donald Sutherland) announced the 75th Annual Hunger Games and Katniss and Peeta were to represent District 12 once again; but this time they knew who the real enemy was…the Capitol. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is the second installment in the The Hunger Games saga, based on a popular young adult novel.

Talking Points:
As in The Hunger Games, the storyline in this sequel is dark, with a lot of violence throughout the film. Having said that, the tributes (participants in the games) are trying to help one another, and ultimately, they don’t want to kill anyone.
It was disturbing to see the governments cruel reign over their subjects. This could spark a good parent/child conversation.
There were a lot of exciting and suspenseful parts in the film. I was at the edge of my seat!!!
Sexual Content: Mild
- Characters were shown passionately kissing.
Violent Content: Excessive
- Characters were stabbed and shot to death.
- A peacekeeper continuously whipped Gale (Katniss’ best friend) on his bare back; we saw the open wounds which covered his back.
- Two character’s fought in a lake, and tried to drowned one another.
- The tributes faced various obstacles throughout the games such as, horrific storms, clouds of poison, and they were attacked by scary creatures.
- When hit by the cloud of poison, the tributes were in severe pain, screaming and covered with blisters.
- There were explosions which resulted in casualties as well.
Crude or Profane Language: Mild
- There may have been one or two profane words, but nothing noteworthy.
Drugs and Alcohol: Mild
- Characters were shown drinking alcoholic beverages.
- It’s known that Haymitch (Katniss’ and Peeta’s mentor) has a drinking problem.
Will It Appeal to Kids? Yes
Since the film is based on a very popular young adult novel, kids will most likely want to see the movie.
Overall The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is an exciting and thrilling film. Depending on the child, I recommend this film for kids ages 11 and up. Parents need to be aware of the excessive violent content.
