    Spring Breakers-Teen Movie Review

Disney’s good girls gone wild…Selena Gomez from Wizards of Waverly Place, and Vanessa Hudgens from High School Musical, are the two main stars in this inappropriate R-rated film. Life was dull and boring for four college girls, they needed to getaway and escape their day to day mundane lives. So they decided to go away for spring break! The only problem was that they didn’t have enough money, so they robbed a restaurant, went to St. Petersburg, Florida and that’s when the partying began. Drinking, drugs, sex, you name it, they did it- and we saw it. However struggles occurred when they ended up in jail, and a drug dealer named Alien bailed them out. Now they entered into a new world of drugs and violence..their boring life at home wasn’t so bad after all.

    Talking Points:

The subject matter of this movie may not interest young viewers, however knowing that two popular Disney stars, Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens, were in a new film will appeal to youngsters.

I typically find some redeeming quality in a film, however I left this movie before it ended. I couldn’t take anymore of the sex, drugs and violence that was woven throughout the film.

When the girls called home they lied to either their parents or grandparents about what they were doing.

    Sexual Content: Excessive

    • We saw topless women drinking at a party, snorting cocaine and making out with each other. Not in just one scene, but several; and it was shown in slow motion. When the women weren’t topless, they were in their skimpy bikinis.
    • We saw men in jock straps with the topless women.
    • We saw two explicit sexual encounters.
    • Alien seduced two of the girls, they had a threesome in a swimming pool.
    • There were sexual references throughout the film.
    • A man performed oral sex on a gun barrel, the girls discussed pulling the trigger.

    Violent/Disturbing Content: Excessive

    • The girls robbed a restaurant, then burned their stolen getaway car.
    • When three of the girls were with Alien, they wore bikinis and ski masks and robbed a group of college boys in a hotel room.
    • Two of the girls had machine guns, shooting and killing people.
    • There were violent images; set in a dark, seedy drug world.

    Crude or Profane Language: Excessive

    • Tons of f-words were said, I lost track, too many to count. “Sh-t,” “b–ch” and “d-mn” were said throughout the film. “T-ts,”, ‘d–k,” and “p—y,” were also said.

    Drugs and Alcohol Content: Excessive

    • College students were shown drinking, getting drunk, smoking marijuana, smoking from bongs, and snorting cocaine throughout the film.

    Will Kids Like It? No

Overall I do not recommend this film for anyone. Parents need to be aware of the excessive violence, sexual content, profane language and drug and alc0hol content. Too bad Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens felt a need to break out of their Disney shell!
