The Croods-Children’s Movie Review
The Croods are a prehistoric family who were forced to leave their cave after a natural disaster destroyed the whole area. Grug (Nicolas Cage), the father and leader of the household, took his role very seriously, he was determined to protect the family as they searched for a new home. However, things got complicated when they met a resourceful nomad named Guy (Ryan Reynolds). Guy was a cute teenage boy who fell for Grug’s teen daughter, Eep (Emma Stone). Grug began to feel threatened; he wanted to be the man in charge, but he eventually realized that with Guy’s brains, his strength, and a loving family… they could survive. The Croods is a wonderful animated, adventure film for the whole family.

Talking Points
The importance of family was woven throughout the film. I especially loved the father/daughter relationship. Grug had such a hard time accepting his teenage daughter’s boyfriend. He also felt threatened by the young man; after all Grug was the man of the cave and leader of the family. When the smart boyfriend came into the picture, Grug felt threatened and sad.
The movie featured voices of; Nicolas Cage, Ryan Reynolds, Emma Stone, Catherine Keener, Clark Duke, and Cloris Leachman.
Grug and Gran (his mother-in-law) didn’t get along that well. Grug would make jokes hoping Gran would die soon.
Sometimes Eep (teenage daughter) spoke disrespectfully to her father.
Sexual Content: Mild
- Eep and her boyfriend hug and kiss. They’re a cute teenage couple!
Violent/Disturbing Content: Mild
- There was some slapstick violence.
- The animals feed on each other, that’s their source of food. We saw this in a humorous way.
- The Croods threw stones at each other, smashed their heads on rocks and wrestled one another.
Crude or Profane Language: None
Drugs and Alcohol Content: None
